#FLOWERBOYS

The photo project “flowerboys” was born out of a personal experience where a friend did not dare to gift flowers to a male because it would be sending a too-feminine connotation. This small moment incorporated hundreds of years of gender definition, cultural expectations of masculinity and femininity and a society that still follows prejudiced imagery. It, therefore, wants to question the societal connection of flowers to femininity.

Alexander Den Heijer once said: „When a flower does not blossom, you fix the environment, not the flower itself.“  This is exactly what this photo series is about. Showcasing the fluidity of masculinity and feminity with the desire to inspire a society in which full self-exploration and self-expression can flourish and are not only accepted but encouraged and nourished.
